Artifact: Multimedia Design Project Report
Reflection:
The artifact used to provide evidence of mastery for this standard is a webquest highlighting students’ ability to use multiplication. This webquest was created as a way for students to practice multiplication anytime.
A webquest uses research-based practices to guide instruction and enhances student learning through a technology-based lesson. Students are able to navigate the lesson on their own or with a partner. The webquest provided various types of mathematics problems for students to practice. Additionally, the webquest helps students to build both collaboration and communication skills. A major component of the webquest was problem solving and critical thinking. In addition to these skills, students must also follow directions.
The webquest also reflects the habits of the mind. Habits of the mind are life skills which students need to develop in order to successfully work through situations. Examples of habits of the mind include persistence, flexibility, metacognition, and thinking interdependently. The webquest taps all of the students’ senses. Students must also be independent thinkers. It is important for them to be able to read, process, and determine solutions to problems. If students have problems during the webquest, they can start over. This is teaching students’ persistence.
This was a successful lesson. Through the use of a webquest, students were able to build imperative communication skills with other students. For any assignment to be successful, it is important to give students the opportunity to practice. Also, they must know what is expected of them. By providing these important skills to my students, I provided them with an authentic learning experience.
All classrooms should be using multimedia projects such as webquests to help students learn. The webquest provides students with many valuable skills. To name a few, problem solving, collaboration, and communication are important. Students need to work on assignments which are outside of the norm. By providing students with technology-enhanced lessons, they are being given the opportunity to learn while enjoying what they are learning. In turn, students will be more successful.
