Artifact: Weebly Blog
Reflection:
The artifact used for this standard is a blog I created on my website on Weebly. The blog reflects my thoughts on courses I have taken throughout my time at Kennesaw State University.
The blog was created as a reflection of my growth as a professional. The blog reflects my journey as a student. This was my first blog. I found it relaxing to get my feelings out about what I was learning. It was also challenging at times. It gives a different perspective knowing others may read what you have written.
Since I am now familiar with blogs, I find I will use them in my classroom in the future. I think blogs are a way to build many communication skills especially in children. In order to prepare students for the future, it will be imperative they know how to type. By providing them with a blog entry to complete, this will give them practice. Moreover, it will also prepare them for job skills that may require them to communicate online.
I find the blog was a nice change of pace. It allowed me to type my feelings from my point of view as opposed to submitting a paper. It gave me an informal way to reflect on what I had learned. I actually found I was excited to blog although I was apprehensive at first.
Since technology is already present in school, I find using blogs could be a more efficient way for students to turn in work. First of all, the cost is extremely minimal. However, it would be important for teachers to use a sight that was safe for students. Students would also need to be made aware of internet safety guidelines. Since blogging increased motivation and honesty from me, I feel it could do the same for students.
Blogging could be successful in all classroom environments. Teachers could use a blog as a way to communicate with students and parents. Students could use the blog as a way to reflect on content such as a journal. Overall, I feel blogging would be successful for both adults and children.
