Coaching Journal
One Hour Technology Workshop
Reflection:
The artifact used for this standard is a One Hour Technology Workshop. This workshop was created as a way to help colleagues with differentiation in the classroom. In addition to the workshop, a Coaching Journal also presents another valuable opportunity for professional learning.
The Technology Workshop was developed based on needs of teachers. The content of the workshop is using differentiation in the classroom. Differentiation is an extremely important element to both teachers and students. This workshop was presented using a website which is extremely user friendly.
The website contains many valuable resources and content. The learning objectives provide the audience with ideas regarding what they were learning while participating. The content also provides a definition for differentiation as well as how to’s and strategies. All of these elements are essential to a successful classroom.
The second artifact is the Coaching Journal. This journal was created by working with an educator in a face to face environment and using online support components. This journal also supported adult learning objectives. Through coaching, the educator was able to identify her specific weaknesses, yet took responsibility for determining the best strategies to strengthen the areas of need. While it is hard for some to admit they need help, it is important to build a partnership of trust in order to achieve the goals needed to increase student achievement and be better educators.
As a teacher, it is imperative to continually grow professionally. It would be beneficial to use Needs Assessments in the classroom. Each teacher needs an inventory of their strengths and weaknesses. By doing this, instruction can be modified and student achievement can increase. With the diverse student population, it is essential teachers learn to change.
The experience of creating a Needs Assessment can be an eye opener. It is important to analyze your school in order to determine where strengths and weaknesses are. Strengths can be capitalized on while weaknesses can be improved. It would be beneficial for all teachers to administer a personal Needs Assessment Inventory to identify their strengths and weaknesses. This could allow them to see where they need improvement when using technology in the classroom. Since technology creates real-world, authentic learning scenarios, it is imperative teachers are confident and using technology day to day.
