the school technology infrastructure. (PSC 3.6/ISTE 3f)
Artifact: Emerging Technologies
Emerging Technology Presentation
Reflection:
The artifact used to provide evidence of this standard is an emerging technology presentation. This presentation is about using iPad Mini’s in the classroom. The project was based on the collaboration to select and implement an emerging technology into the classroom.
The presentation displays several reasons why implement iPad Mini’s into the classroom is a feasible option for any school. This particular emerging technology can promote a student centered learning environment; as well as, be cost efficient, and provide essential learning activities for diverse
learners present in today’s classroom.
iPad Mini’s play a versatile role in the classroom. They can be used as whole group, small group, or one-on-one instruction. iPad’s assist students of all ages, all skill levels, and in all content areas. iPad’s promote a 21st learning experience for students by connecting skills they have learned in the classroom with real-world scenarios.
The emerging technologies presentation outlines the cost, technical support, and funding for the iPad Mini’s purchase. While the cost is minimal compared to other technology purchases, maintenance and app purchases must be taken into consideration when budgeting for these tools. Additionally, having technical support available to service and troubleshoot would be recommended.
I found the emerging technologies project very insightful. From the standpoint of a classroom teacher, I gained a deeper understanding of the process required to identify and purchase the most appropriate technology tool for the classroom. Budgeting, project management, technology services and professional development all play a major role in the implementation of any emerging technology program. I feel this project allowed me to grow as a professional and focus on the process of things happening rather than just having them in my classroom.
When incorporating any emerging technology into a classroom environment, everybody wins. The school becomes a place where many opportunities are present to provide the ultimate technological learning experiences for children. Faculty and staff become more knowledgeable and efficient with the use of technology. They become creative in the uses of authentic and meaningful lessons. Most importantly, technology provides students with learning experiences they would not have gotten years ago without the technology. Students need the real-world connections to ensure they are successful as
professionals.
