Artifact: Third Grade Class Webpage
Reflection:
The artifact used to provide evidence of this standard is a webpage created for West Fannin Elementary School’s Third Grade parents and students. This webpage was published on the school system’s website so it is accessible at any time to anyone.
The website was created to help communication between teachers, parents, and students. The website contains elements from all content areas taught in the third grade. The website was continually updated in order for parents to stay informed about information happening in the third grade.
Since the third grade is departmentalized, every content area has its own information. This information was provided by the teacher each week
in order to stay current. As a means of communication, email addresses were provided for each teacher. By doing this, parents were provided with a means on instant communication to parents and vise versa.
With technology and the classroom continually changing, I felt it was essential to create a website where parents can find resources, stay current on content, and have a means to contact the teacher. As I was developing the website, I felt it was important to create a kid friendly page. Although the
directed audience for the website was the parents, there are numerous resources on the page for students to use. Therefore, graphics and links which are easily to identify are present.
Although creating the webpage took a lot of effort, I feel it was important to school improvement. We are continually looking for ways to improve communication amongst our parents. By creating this, it provides parents with a means to see what their child is doing at any time. It also provides
instant communication for them if they had questions or concerns. Student learning could also be impacted. There are various resources for all content
areas in which students could use. With practice and reinforcement at home, students could ultimately have improved achievement.
